Cintemani (Padişah Kaftanı)
In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Çintemani motif was a symbolic design of Central Asian origin and had a long history in Turkish culture. Çintemani is derived from the Sanskrit word “chita” (leopard) and symbolizes power, speed, and intelligence. The motif typically consists of three stars and wavy lines, repeated in a symmetrical pattern. The use of the Çintemani motif in the Ottoman Empire was widespread due to its representation of power and success particularly in the garments of sultans and princes' belongings. This motif was frequently used in the ornamentation of palaces, mosques, jewelry, clothing, and other important structures. It was also commonly seen in fabrics, carpets, and tiles.
